Days 29 & 30 - New Me's and Recipes
Day 29 was about taking a selfie that tells something about the person you're becoming.  I got randomly sick yesterday, and thus was NOT in a photogenic mood.  So I did it today.

Now, what you don't know is that there are a whole bunch of Peanut Butter Blossoms out in the kitchen.  I am eating an apple.  Thus, healthy eating/lifestyle choices being the theme of this photo!

Day 30 is posting a recipe!  I like talking about food.  I was surprised when going back through my blog posts and seeing I only have 4 or 5 recipes!  Simply not done I say!

Flash Fried Chicken
3 cups chicken broth
4 chicken breasts
Grapeseed oil
1 cup flour
1 Tbsp paprika
1 1/2 tsp celery salt
1 Tbsp pepper
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
                                                    1 1/2 cups milk

Heat chicken broth in saucepan over high heat to bring to a boil.  Add chicken and reduce to a simmer.  Boil chicken for 40 minutes.  Remove chicken, pat dry, and keep warm.  Mix all dry ingredients.  Coat chicken in milk then in dry mixture, shaking off any excess.  Heat oil in skillet or saucepan.  Fry chicken in enough hot oil to cover, for 30 seconds to 1 minute.  Serve chicken immediately.

By cooking the chicken first before coating, you are saving yourself a load of fat and calories you would otherwise ingest from normal fried chicken.

Day Twenty-Eight - One Sentence Saturday
Today at KIOSB we're posting our word for 2014!
Action!  After much deliberation (and a lot of A and P words for some reason) I narrowed it down to Action.  With a capital A.  There are so many things in my life that can only improve by acting on them.

Movement, following through with things, finishing, doing.  These are all a part of the theme that is action for me.  Wish me luck in this coming year!

Days 25-27 - Catching Up
Well, between holiday festivities and sleeping, I have some catching up to do.  So here we go!

Day Twenty-Five - Holiday Traditions

For our Christmas day tradition, we usually go to bed early.  We wake up at four (yes... a.m.) to open our stockings.  Then at six we would wake up our mom and open gifts, after preparing her coffee of course.

There was one year when we were still young, when my oldest sister and I didn't want to wait.  Our middle sister was asleep and thus had no part in the plot.  We set the designated clock ahead two hours, so we could go down at two instead of four.  We actually woke our parents up at four.  It amazed us both not only how long it took them to figure it out, but that we didn't get in trouble!

Day Twenty-Six - Ten Things in Your Fridge

We went over to my sister's in-law's Christmas party, so no leftovers for us.

1. Silk vanilla soy milk- We have quite a bit of dairy sensitivity in this house.
2. 2% milk- For baking and cereal.  These people don't like the Silk as much as I do, I guess.
3. International Delight butter pecan creamer- For my mother's coffee.  She loves it so much, she buys multiples so she won't run out.
4. Diet Pepsi- We are a Pepsi household.  Yes I know it's bad for you, I am trying to cut down.
5. Eggs- For the occasional breakfast sandwich, but mostly used for baking.
6. Heavy Whipping Cream- For the Yule log I made, soon to be used up in New Year's Chocolate Mousse!
7. Home made chicken stock- In the green tupperware.  I used all of our canning jars to freeze the rest.
8. Pepperoni- For pizza!  I make this fairly often, on days that I want cooking to take a short time... or I forgot to get out meat to defrost.
9. White Zinfandel- My mom's wine of choice, though it's been there awhile.  She doesn't drink much, myself even less so.  I don't care for the taste of alcohol.
10. Tomatoes- Down on the bottom all by their lonesome.  We need to go shopping for fresh vegetables. -_-

Day Twenty-Seven - Final Friday
1. What will you remember about 2013?
Staying at my sister's house to watch her kitties while they went on vacation.  Getting a whole tub full of free costume jewelry to take apart and use.  My mother and sister being happy with their blankets.
2. What are you ready to leave behind?
Fear.  Doubt.  Stagnation.  Arguments.  This house!
3. What's something you learned in 2013?
How to finger crochet.  Don't leave candles unattended.  EVER.  That cooked tomato does not equal stewed tomato.
4. What would you like to celebrate about this past year?
I made two blankets by hand.  I made cordial cherries and English toffee from scratch and people liked them.  Our finances are actually somewhat stable.  We are moving forward, even though things can be tough at times.

Day Twenty-Four - Holiday Disasters

Today's prompt on KIOSB is to share a tip or story relating to a holiday disaster.  Happy Christmas Eve everybody!

Now this didn't happen during Christmas, but around my sister's birthday, which is in early January.  Some of you Canadians as well as northeastern Americans may remember...The Ice Storm of 98'.

I was about seven at the time, but remember it well.  We were in northern NY at the time, so right in the thick of the storm.  My parents were smack dab in the middle of their divorce, so we weren't at home when the storm hit.  The snow was nearly as tall as I was and the hail was monstrous.  No one was allowed on the roads but response vehicles, since the roads were either icy, covered in downed tree branches, or both.

I remember being glad that we had access to a gas stove, so at least we could heat up the snow to cook food or flush the toilet.  This was also my first and only ambulance ride.  The people were nice enough to pick us up and take us all to a fire station, where a bunch of people were sheltered.  They played Men in Black for us kids while the parents and adults did who knows what.  I remember being scared of that movie.

It wasn't too bad a time, to be honest.  I always liked snow and found severe weather exciting.  My sister didn't have a very good birthday though, as it was spent in a hotel with people we didn't really know.  But we all came out of it safe.

Now for tips!  Gas stoves are awesome for power outages, but don't use the oven to heat your house because of the fumes.  Generators-Awesome.  Candles-Always a plus.  Blankets-Have more than you need.  Flashlights and batteries are necessary.  Food/water storage are an excellent idea if you have the space, or you can put some in a garage or shed.
Day Twenty-Three - Books

Today's prompt for KIOSB  is to talk about books, or in my case book collections!  This first one is where some herbalism books are held on the top shelf.  Those are the only ones I really look at.  The rest are my mom's nursing books and other things.

THIS is my sister's and my shared book collection.  Manga takes up a little more than one bookcase and the rest are mostly fantasy novels.  These are in my sister's room, so she also uses them as shelves. -_-

These you may have seen before when I showed you my blogging space.  It's a closer looks at the Pagan/herbalism books I keep in my room.

Last but not least!  COOKBOOKS!  I was surprise at how many of these are mine.  The little box on the top right is my recipe box, which also hold quite a few of my favorites.

Day Twenty-Two - Wee Me

Today's prompt at KIOSB is sharing pictures of ourselves as little ones.

Look!  Look upon the wonder that is her majesty.  Complete with red-eye, which always made me look a bit demonic.  With my crowning glory bestowed upon me from one King of Burgers, along with my almighty sippy cup of truth.

My pictures of this age seem to go between being happy for whatever reason, screaming because of the injustice of my sister stealing my toys, and just staring at the camera like I've never seen it before.  By the way, does BK still have those crowns?

Day Twenty-One - One Sentence Saturday

"Generalizations are generally a bad idea."
                                -Me

I think this is a good quote to live by.  I feel that when you try to put a large group of people into a little defined box, someone is going to be hurt.  So I try my best to judge people by what they do or say, and not by what society likes to label them as.

Day Nineteen: 10 Things in My Bag

Today's prompt at KIOSB is to show ten things in my bag.  It's technically eleven, since that is my bag.  Look at it in it's buttoned glory!  I will be replacing it soon enough though. :(

Those are my keys.  Much like my purse, only with a monstrous amount of key chains.  I only have three keys on there and only two of them are working keys.

These are my wallets and pens.  My main wallet is the pirate ninja wallet and the patriotic wallet was a gift from a family member.

I have my mirror, lipstick (which will be put on my dresser once I'm done here), a pack of cards (because you never know when waiting will occur), a small flashlight, and if you look closely there is a really small piece of rolled up paper.

The paper is one of many that I got from Earth Lore, a metaphysical shop here in Michigan.  Unraveled, it reads:
'Defeat is not the worst of failures.  Not to have tried is the true failure.'
~George E. Woodberry

Day Seventeen: Free Association

Today the prompt for KIOSB is taking words and sharing how they inspire us.  Here we go.

1. River- Fresh, running water.  The St. Lawrence and the Clinton rivers.  Being swept downstream in a little inflatable boat.  Doctor Who. XD

2. Fresh- Nature.  Flowers in the peak of spring.  Fruits and vegetables at their crisp and most succulent.  An abundance of fragrant herbs that sprawl across the garden.

3. Escape- A prison break (for some reason).  A chase.  The line between freedom and ignoring one's obligations.

4. Moment- Kelly Clarkson's first hit.  An instant in time to be savored.

5. Night- Owls.  Sleep.  Hot beverages.  Mystery.  The stars and planets and their ability to make us wonder.

Day Sixteen: Favorite Music
Yes I changed the prompt, which is favorite songs.  I have favorite bands and genres, but rarely favorite songs.  Anywho, here is a short list of some of my favorites.  Note: A lot of these will be foreign, simply because they deserve to be mentioned.

Asrai- A Dutch Gothic rock band.
Within Temptation- Another Dutch band, but more symphonic.  The lead singer Sharon has some interesting dance moves, but it just shows what a faerie she is.
Highland- A German band, I believe.  Its got a mixture of rap/hip-hop and symphonic vocals.  You would think it doesn't work, but I think they're awesome.  Most of the vocals are in Italian.
Kalafina- A Japanese group consisting of three main singers.  They harmonize beautifully and have a style that ranges from pop to ballads.
Yulia Savicheva- A Russian pop singer.  She has a lovely voice and does have some slower, more powerful songs as well.
Breaking Benjamin- Probably my favorite American group.  An awesome rock band.
The Birthday Massacre- A Canadian rock/synthpop band with a dark feel.

I do enjoy a variety of other music, ranging from classical to metal as well as from just about every era.  It would be a lot to list.

Days 14 & 15 KIOSB

Day 14 of KIOSB was One Sentence Saturday.  The book I used is The Bartimaeus Trilogy's first novel The Amulet of Samarkand and was written by Jonathan Stroud.  It's an excellent book if you like fantasy fiction and snark.

The first sentence is 'The temperature of the room dropped fast.'

Day 15 of KIOSB is a sharing of loved ones, animals and human alike.  First up is my baby October.  He's our oldest fur baby.  He was not putting up with my camera shenanigans today.

Roxy is in the middle.  We got her from a friend of my sister who couldn't take her in his apartment.    It was supposed to be temporary, but she's part of the family now.

Maurice, who we called Moose, is the youngest.  He was found by my ex-step-father at the prison he worked at.  He was smuggled home in his bag and has been a beloved addition to our family.

These are my weirdo siblings.  The one smiling is my oldest sister, the crazy one is my twinny, and the show-off of a boy is my brother-in-law.

This is my Mom, a.k.a. Momo.  She has raised me almost singlehandedly for the duration of my life.

This is my Dad and step-mother on their wedding day.  I don't see them much, as they live in NY and I live in MI.

Sorry for the really long post... the pictures did not want to cooperate.

Day Thirteen: My First...
Today's prompt at KIOSB is to share a first.  Now, I've been wracking my brain to think of a good one.  Most of my firsts I can't seem to remember.  But as I sat down with my mug of tea it hit me.  So I'll share with you the first time I ever had coffee.

I remember we were at a hotel for some reason.  Perhaps it was a part of one of our little vacations to Vermont.  We had just woken up and were eating breakfast.  My sisters and I ask if we could have some coffee (as we were wont to do) and this time my parents actually said yes!  So we each got a little Styrofoam cup and filled it to the brim, not even considering that we may not like it.

Of course, one must taste the coffee before adding anything to it, just in case a seven year old might like their coffee black.  Naturally, being a child that young and having no palate for the bitterness of coffee, I grimaced and began adding sugar and cream.  A lot of it.  To the point where it was the lightest shade of brown possible and tasted like cotton candy that fell in the bathtub.

Needless to say I was disgusted.  Why would adults drink this stuff?  It was so bad either way it made no sense.  Well, adults made no sense, so I chalked it up to one of those weird things that I would never understand.  My parents did try to explain that I added too much sugar, but to no avail.  I was seven... there was no such thing as too much sugar.

I have learned how to drink coffee properly since then, but I must say I still prefer my Earl Grey.

Day Twelve: 10 Things I Know For Sure

Today's prompt on KIOSB is ten things I know for sure.

1. It's okay not to be happy all the time.  For some people, contentment is fine as it is.

2. NEVER leave a candle burning unattended.  Or by a pizza box.  Or put tissues near an open flame.  No matter how much you think it's secure... it won't be.

3. Don't let the flail-y person hold the eggs.

4. Don't feed the trolls.  No matter how angry you get or how badly you want to psycho-analyse them, you usually won't make a real impact unless you know them in person.  Because.. you know, people on the internet aren't real. *sarcasm*

5. Sarcasm is NOT the lowest form of wit.  For some, it's a defense mechanism.  For others, a means of showing affection.

6. Be nice to the servers, the garbage people, the employees at a store.  Not just because they handle your stuff, but because they are people too.

7. No matter how mad you get, don't say you hate someone.  Most likely you'll calm down and feel like a jerk later.

8. Different strokes for different folks.  Unless it's something that harms you or yours in some way, try to be open minded.

9. It's possible to have too much of a good thing.

10. In the end, all you can control is you.

Day Eleven: Weepy Wednesday

Today's prompt at KIOSB is what makes us cry.  I'm not really a weeper.  I don't cry easily.  I feel sadness sure, but it takes a lot to make me actually shed tears.  Onions do it of course, and my eyes hate me every time I cut them.

However, I am moved by things.  Music does it quite easily.  Sad or emotional songs like the one I've put here is an example.  I love Heather Dale in general.

I am also easily moved by quality fiction... or non-fiction for that matter.  I cried the first time around during certain Harry Potter books, as well as hearing the story of Anne Frank's life.  I will say, that I prefer happy endings to sad or bittersweet.  The latter two make me feel sort of hollow and depressed, which prompts me to search for something more optimistic.

Day Ten: Show and Tell
Today's prompt at KIOSB is show and tell.  First let me just say that I always had mixed feelings about show and tell.  On the one hand hey, you get to brag about something you really like.  On the other hand, up in front of the whole class.  Not so fun when you're kind of shy.

Well, this is what I'm working on.  A finger crocheted afghan for my sister for Christmas.  Finger crochet can be hard on your fingers, so I wear a latex glove on my dominant hand when I do it.  This one is a bit different from the first one I made, as it's going to be a ribbed blanket.

This was my first blanket I completed.  I made it initially for my mom for her birthday, but that became Mother's day and it was still late.  Hoping I don't do that this time.  These blankets end up pretty substantial, as you use three strands of yarn at once.  I've noticed that the ribbed effect keeps the weight of the yarn more evenly distributed than doing a whole stitch, which with finger crocheting makes the holes stretch when the blanket is draped.  But it holds together well.  I made sure of that.

My first actual attempt ended badly, as I messed up the ends where you have to flip your work.  That, and I didn't have enough yarn.  I even tried to get more, but the color batch was no longer sold. -_-;;  Ah well.  I'll just use that yarn for a hat or something.

Day Nine: Favorite Movies

Today for the blog-a-thon, the prompt is favorite movies.

I like a lot of movies.  What I am about to list is only a small portion of the movies I enjoy.  Strangely, most of them are animated/Disney.  Not that that's a bad thing.

First off we have Alice in Wonderland, the Tim Burton version.  I like the original Disney version as well, but the story of the live action version is better, in my opinion.

I also really like Tangled, Disney's take on the Rapunzel fairy tale.  it certainly helps that Mandy Moore both voices and sings as Rapunzel.  Mother Gothel makes an excellent villain.  Not only is she relatable in the smothering mother sense, but Donna Murphy has an awesome voice.  Also, I am so Pascal it isn't even funny.
Another Disney animated film I love is The Sword in the Stone.  My sister and I love this film.  My Archimedes to her Merlin, I can always laugh at this movie.

Howl's Moving Castle is technically Disney here in the States, yes?  I adore Studio Ghibli films and we own quite a few, but this is my favorite.  I hear that it's not really like the book, which is sad.

Finally, we have The Avengers.  I like this movie for the humor, the action... it's just an awesome movie.  Tom Hiddleston is awesome as Loki, though I'm not one of those Loki fan girls who would have wanted him to win.  Nope, while I feel bad for the character of Loki, he did wrong and for that there are consequences.  I wish Hawkeye would have had more screen time though.  Jeremy Renner is also awesome, and I hope to see more of his character in the next one.

As I said, these are not my only favorites, but I don't want to make this post humongous.  On that note, who here is stoked for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug?!

Day Eight: Where I Blog

Today during the Kickin' It Old Skool blog-a-thon, we're sharing where we make the magic happen.   Please forgive the not so good picture... I took it with a phone camera :/

Anywho!  I've got an all-in-one computer, so no need for a CPU unit.  My old computer died of a power surge over the summer, so she had to be replaced.  The zebra blanket is covering the modem, since it's REALLY bright and my computer is in my room, thus it's annoying when I try to sleep.  I've got my lovely tea steeping in front with my turtle-dragon watching over my computer and my fireballs (it's shell opens, shhh don't tell anyone).

Then I've got stack of books and pads of paper to the left, along with markers and CDs that never get used.  On the shelf above that are my knickknacks.  Turtles made of shell and stone, a miniature tea set, various anime figures, as well as my Jin-Chan toad for prosperity can be found here.

Above that is where we keep the house phone, which is housed on my Keri Smith book set.  I also have my metaphysical/herbalism books that love to fall over as soon as I get one out.  You can kind of see my purple turtle Neon in front of them.

Finally, to the upper left I have empty books (to be used for herbal information) and magazines in a stack.  I've got my Gemini doll in her lime green glory and my coffee can full of marbles.  The marbles are topped with my bridesmaid bouquet from my sister's wedding.  Behind the doll is my mother's bridal bouquet that I caught... well... picked up.

Yes I know I have a lot of stuff.  I need to pare down a lot.  Well, this is my office/room/computer situation area.  I hope you enjoyed your stay.

Day Seven: One Sentence Saturday

A day of secrecy and deception... don't worry, it's the good kind.

Day Six: Share Your First Blog Post

Alright!  I've been thinking abut starting a blog for a few months now, and decided now was the time.  Or rather, the universe has been bombarding me with various signs that I should act.  So here we are!

About the name.  I love tea and I love hats.  Not just tiny hats mind you, but the alliteration sounds so nice.  This blog will include many things: recipes, crafty stuff (I make jewelry), bits from my home life, as well as things related to my pagan path.

I hope you enjoy my posts, whoever you are.

That up there is my first post.  Pretty simple really.  I've now been blogging a little over two years.  It's sad how little progress I've made.  BUT!  I have plans.  Most wondrous plans.  I want to get a banner made eventually, have an About Me page, as well as a 101 goals in 1001 days progress page.  I also noticed (and forgot apparently) that I wanted to share my jewelry here in the first place.  I think my head got stuck on how this should be a pagan blog and as a result I got stuck.

Day Four: Weather Wednesday

Today has been gray.  Dreary.  Too warm for winter but not warm enough to be comfortable without a coat.  Not cold enough for snow T^T  I want snow now.  It's wet and soggy and tiring.  Rain makes me tired for some reason.

Anyway, to stop my incessant complaining, today has been and inside day.  A day for chores and crafts and hot beverages.  I suppose we must have days like this so that we can enjoy the more pleasurable weather when it's time comes.

On another note... what's up with the spelling of the word Wednesday?
