Day Five: Ten Things About Me

This is day five of the Kickin' It Old Skool blog-a-thon.  See it here.

My mom is up top, my oldest sister is bottom left and my older sister is to the right.
1. I am the youngest of three girls.  Most people think I'm at least the middle.

2. I have an insatiable love for fantasy fiction.  I read other genres too, but fantasy just speaks to me.

3. I am a collector of dragons and turtles.  I have 9 dragons and 16 turtles sprinkled about my room.  This is a guess... there may be more.

4. I was born in upstate New York.  When I was 9 we moved to the Metro-Detroit area in Michigan.
Our old house in Waddington.  When we lived there we painted it street sign green.  People talked.  It was a small town.

5. I make jewelry.  I have never posted any pictures of it on here.  For reasons, see #6.

6. I am battling perfectionism.  It makes it that I am so afraid of doing something wrong, that I won't do it at all.

7. When I was a toddler I cut the roof of my mouth with a broom handle.  I was too young to remember it, but I do have a scar.

8.I have moved approximately 15 times in my lifetime. Across two states and four counties have I spread my awesomeness.  All in 22 years of life.

9. I played the saxophone in sixth grade.  It sounded like a dying goose.

10. I am a 1 with a two wing on the enneagram and an INTJ on the Myers-Briggs test.

  1. I collect dragons and skulls! I have not counted the number of dragons but it is quite impressive, if I do say so myself.
#9 just made me laugh out loud--which didn't sound like a dying goose I am happy to say.
You must get over perfectionism, honey. At 22. Don't waste another year on it. The freedom of accepting everything just as it is and knowing the true beauty and truth that ALL is as it should be in the moment. Man, you will soar when you get that, I promise you.
All the best to you in your Massage Therapy career. If you have any question please don't hesitate to ask me.

  2. It's fun to know that you too are an INTJ. About no 6, I do hope you win the battle :) By the way, dont't you think these December bloggers would be a wonderful group with which to share a few photos of your work? Looking forward to getting to know you better.

    1. Hopefully there will be a prompt that would make it relevant. If not, then I'll just have to share them in a random post!

  3. Wow that is a crazy amount of moving! That had to have been hard to get settled down anywhere but at least you have been able to spread your awesomeness far and wide! ) I am totally a perfectionist too so that's one of the reasons why I am loving this Blog-a-Thon because I don't feel like these posts need to be super perfect, they're just for fun. :)

  5. thanks for making me smile. And yes....give up the perfectionism. You will be so mach happier. Don't wait till you're 40 like I did. I wish I had given up on it sooner.

  6. ...as a jewelry artist who makes money from my art... TRUST ME... give up on the perfectionism... like all the others said!

I can not tell you how many pieces I've put out on the shelf, pieces that made me cringe...and yet... those have been the first to sell. Why? Because people really do want to see the soul in the piece. While there are many artisans that do pristine and beautiful work... there is something to be said for that touch of humanism in the piece...

There are so many indigenous artists that purposefully make a mistake in the work...because only the Creator can make something perfect...

  7. Hi Kristina, Nice to learn more about you. I love how you said you were able to spread your awesomeness in your moves. What a great way to look at it.

  9. Saxophone! Haha! I used to play oboe in high school -- I bet my honk was worse than yours!!

The best way to get over perfectionism is to let other people see your work... trust me, they don't see it the way you do. They don't see the imperfections, but the glorious whole. And when they compliment you, just say thank you and try to see it with their eyes. I struggle with perfectionism, too -- but I've learned to finish even if I make a mistake: the whole is more than the sum of its mistakes. And I also have learned that nobody else has the microscope vision about my work that I do... but at 22, I had a lot of learning to do... you'll get over it.

And I can't wait to see your pictures!
